Research Interests

A/Prof Blinco has demonstrated significant expertise in many of the facets of free radical chemistry, for a wide range of applications. This research has been underpinned by a strong background in both synthetic and physical organic chemistry and particular expertise in different areas of the synthesis of stable free radical compounds. During his career, A/Prof Blinco has synthesized numerous novel (including an entirely new class) nitroxide free radicals and has played major roles in developing applications for these compounds, as environmental, biological and materials sensors and as useful synthetic linkers for access to complex polymer structures. A/Prof Blinco has produced significant outputs in the field of free radical chemistry which have included aspects of free radical synthesis, EPR spectroscopy, photo-initiated radical reactions, radical degradation of polymers via oxidative pathways and controlled radical polymerisation.
